Candidate for 92nd Assembly and former Legislator Joe Plouff, (D- Menomonie) today appointed Dan Paulson as his Campaign Facilitator. Plouff plans to return to the Assembly using the experience and leadership skills developed over eight years in the Assembly as it begins a period of reform. Paulson is no stranger to community leadership. He is a former elected member of the School District of the Menomonie Area board, and is a founding member of Menomonie Cares, an organization whose mission is to promote an inclusive and nurturing community.
Plouff noted, “Dan and I have worked together over the years and today we begin the process of my reelection to the WI State Assembly.” Following redistricting, the people of Wisconsin have an opportunity to bring balance back to the legislature. Currently one party dominates both the State Senate and Assembly. The Assembly has been held by the GOP for 28 of the last 30 years. Both chambers have thrown up roadblocks that prevent Governor Evers from doing the job that a majority of Wisconsin voters asked him to do. “The recent Supreme Court decision to require the redrawing of legislative boundaries offers us an opportunity for new and fresh ideas to move us forward. Quite frankly the GOP has run out of ideas”, Plouff said.
Paulson noted that the GOP stranglehold on the state has had an impact on all our institutions. “As an example, over time, the legislative attitude toward public education has moved from a position of pride to an attitude of outright disdain.” As president of a local school board, I was acutely aware of the negative effects of inadequate state funding to public schools while right wing legislators poured more and more taxpayer money into private schools. It is obvious to all of us in public education that MAGA Republican leadership was more interested in downstate suburban communities than they ever were in northern, rural, Wisconsin.
Both Paulson and Plouff believe that the Republican governing philosophy of stagnation and chaos is not what the people of the 92nd assembly district deserve. Dan Paulson brings the campaign experience as a community leader, a master teacher, writer, administrator and school board president that will enrich and stimulate the campaign. With the other members of Team Plouff we will put the 92nd District representation in the hands of an experienced, independent, competent lawmaker, Joe Plouff.
